News of Justin Lewis (P'81), Libbet Loughnan (Fr'99), Charli Hoey (Fr'24), Sam Lalor (FB'24) and Ollie Peake (A'24) feature this month. Justin Lewis (P'81) On 25 February, the Governor in Council appointed Justin Lewis (P'81) as a judge of the County Court of Victoria. Judge Lewis' appointment in the Criminal Division commenced on 3 March 2025. Prior to this appointment, Judge Lewis served as a Crown Prosecutor from 2014, before being promoted Senior Crown Prosecutor in 2023, the same year that he was Counsel for the Prosecution on the Malika Leifer case, and then Senior Counsel in 2024. His father, the late Francis (Frank) Lewis, was also a judge of the County Court, and his mother, the Honourable Jan Wade, was appointed the first woman Attorney-General in 1992, a portfolio she held until 1999. Of the appointment, the current Attorney-General, Sonya Kilkenny, was quoted "……Mr Lewis will strengthen our judiciary and support fair and effective decision-making for all Victorians." Congratulations Justin! Libbet Loughnan (Fr'99) Libbet Loughnan's fifth solo exhibition, Stop-Motion, opened at Ceres Gallery New York in NYC on Tuesday 1 April. Libbet is a multi-award winning artist who has lived in both NYC and Mexico, and has exhibited her work globally. In September 2025 she exhibited two of her pieces at the 2025 OGG Art Exhibition, which helped raised funds for the Russell Drysdale Visual Arts Scholarship. Her pieces range from deeply personal self-portraits to abstract playful and mediative pieces. Stop-Motion will be exhibited in Gallery I until 26 April between 12 noon to 6pm, Tuesday to Saturday. Charlie Hoey (Fr'24) Charli Hoey (Fr'24) had the opportunity to play for the Melbourne Mavericks in the Team Girls Cup; the precursor to the Super Netball season. Charli was called up to the squad in mid-March ahead of the pre-season tournament, and made a handful of appearances for the Mavs. Charli has captained the Victorian Under 19 netball team at this week's National Championships, leading them to today's (Wednesday's) grand final. Sam Lalor (FB'24) Sam Lalor (FB'24) made his debut for Richmond on Thursday 13 March, kicking two goals and having a hand in many more as the Tigers upset Carlton in their first game of the season. Sam was one of three OGGs on the victorious Richmond team, alongside Thomson Dow (P'19) and Tom Brown (Cu'21), while Ollie Hollands (P'22) and Brodie Kemp (P'19) took the field for Carlton. Sam earned the AFL Rising Star nomination for his performance in Round 1, and backed up that performance in Richmond's Round 4 clash with Brisbane at the MCG, kicking another two goals and collecting 24 disposals. Ollie Peake (A'24) After being named in the squad a few times for the Victorian cricket team, Ollie Peake (A'24) received the call-up on Saturday 15 March for the state's final game of the season, against Western Australia in Perth. Ollie came to the crease in the first innings with Victoria in a precarious position at just 5 for the loss of 2 wickets. Ollie combined with Peter Handscomb for a vital 94-run partnership, which spanned almost 300 deliveries, and Ollie top-scored for Victoria on debut with 52 hard-fought runs. Victoria would go on to win the match, and Ollie took a couple of catches in the field too! |
